1. Who we are and what we offer
WanderWords is a Mandarin literacy service operated by WanderWords ("we", "us"). We generate personalised Chinese-language stories for children and track their character learning progress. Our app is at app.wanderwords.co and our website is at wanderwords.co.
2. Eligibility — you must be 18 or older
You must be at least 18 years old and a parent or legal guardian to create a WanderWords account. By creating an account you confirm that you meet this requirement. Accounts may not be created on behalf of children — learner profiles within your account are how children access the service.
If we discover that an account was created by someone under 18, we reserve the right to terminate it.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you suspect unauthorised access, contact us at hello@wanderwords.co immediately.
One account per household. You may not create multiple accounts to circumvent subscription limits or trial periods.
4. Subscriptions and payment
Free trial: New accounts receive a 7-day free trial with full access. No credit card is required to start. The trial ends automatically — you won't be charged unless you choose a paid plan.
Paid plans: We offer monthly and annual subscription options. Current pricing is shown on our pricing page. Prices may change with reasonable notice.
Learner add-ons: Your base subscription includes one learner profile. Additional learner profiles are available as a monthly add-on, billed per additional child. Your subscription quantity adjusts automatically when you add or remove learner profiles.
Billing: Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise recurring charges to your payment method at the frequency you select (monthly or annually). Annual subscriptions are charged in full at the start of each billing year.
Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time from the billing page in the app. Access continues until the end of your current billing period. No partial refunds are issued for unused time within a billing period.
Refunds: If you experience a technical issue that prevents you from using the service, contact us within 14 days and we will work to make it right.
5. Learner profiles
Each account may have up to 5 active learner profiles. Learner profiles represent children using the service under your supervision. You are responsible for all content generated for and reviewed within learner profiles under your account.
Deleting a learner profile permanently removes all associated stories, progress data, and worksheets. This cannot be undone.
6. AI-generated content
Stories are generated using large language models (currently OpenAI's GPT-4o-mini). This means:
- Stories are created fresh for each session and are not pre-screened by a human editor
- While we use detailed prompts and content guardrails designed for children, AI-generated content is not perfect
- Chinese vocabulary and grammar are sourced from our curated curriculum database, but AI may occasionally produce errors
- We do not guarantee that all content will be perfectly accurate, culturally appropriate in every context, or free of occasional errors
If you encounter content that seems inappropriate or incorrect, please report it to hello@wanderwords.co. We take these reports seriously and use them to improve our prompts and guardrails.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service to generate content that is harmful, abusive, or illegal
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract content or data from the service at scale
- Share your account credentials with people outside your household
- Use automated tools to interact with the service in ways that circumvent our rate limits
- Resell or redistribute generated stories or content without our written permission
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
8. Intellectual property
Our content: The WanderWords brand, app design, character illustrations, and curriculum content are owned by WanderWords. You may not reproduce or redistribute them without permission.
Generated stories: Stories generated for your learner profiles are yours to use for personal, non-commercial educational purposes within your household. We retain the right to use anonymised, aggregated generation data to improve the service.
Your content: You own any content you provide (learner names, curriculum preferences, etc.). You grant us a limited licence to use it solely to operate the service for your account.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
WanderWords is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no guarantees that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will produce specific language learning outcomes. AI-generated educational content is a supplement to, not a replacement for, qualified language instruction.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, WanderWords shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of data or educational outcomes. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim.
11. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, with or without notice depending on severity. Upon termination, your data is deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which WanderWords operates, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith negotiation first; if unresolved, through binding arbitration or the courts of that jurisdiction.
